Concrete for Sugarcreek Township Properties
Sugarcreek Township is spread out, with about 9,500 residents over 26.6 square miles, and the concrete contractors in Sugarcreek Township that owners call often face bigger lots and longer driveways than in the nearby cities. The 2020 census counted 9,534 people, a density of about 361 per square mile. That is roughly a fifth of Beavercreek's density on almost the same amount of land.
A township named for a creek
Sugarcreek Township was established in 1803 and named for Sugar Creek, a tributary of the Little Miami River. It is the only Sugarcreek Township in Ohio, though the state has five Sugar Creek Townships spelled as two words. The city of Bellbrook lies in the west of the township, and small parts of Centerville and Kettering reach into its west-northwest and northwest corners. The Berryhill-Morris House, built in 1832, is one of its older landmarks.
Creek valleys and rolling ground
The land is more rolling than the flat ground north of Dayton, and creek valleys cut through it. Sloped lots bring their own concrete issues:
- driveways that climb from the road need texture for winter traction
- patios behind walk-out basements may need a raised edge or steps
- runoff from higher ground can wash out the base under walks and slabs
- low corners near a creek can stay wet into spring
We walk the property to see where water goes before we design anything. On some jobs a swale, a drain or extended downspouts do as much for the life of the slab as the concrete itself.
Larger slabs for rural-style living
Many township properties have outbuildings, workshops or horse barns. We pour thicker, reinforced floors for barns and pole buildings, aprons in front of large doors, and pads for generators, tanks or equipment. For long driveways, some owners pour concrete near the house and garage and keep the rest gravel; we build a clean transition with a thickened edge so the concrete does not break at the change.
Who to check with
In an unincorporated township, roads may be maintained by the township or by Greene County, and rules for work near the road differ by road. Before we touch a culvert, apron or road edge, we confirm with the right office what is required.
